Edward Ryman

Head of Claims, Director

Ed is the Head of Claims at HWF. He is an Australian-qualified solicitor with over a decade’s experience in contentious insolvency, and complex commercial disputes, gained across multiple jurisdictions and a variety of subject matter. Having worked as an underwriter at a large global insurer, he understands the technical side of transactional risk and brings commercial insight to the claims function.

Ed began his career in Australia, as a litigator focusing on contentious insolvency matters, working in the Restructuring & Insolvency and Complex Disputes teams at K&L Gates. He has acted and advised in relation to financial and boardroom disputes, insolvency processes, fraud and asset tracing matters, building and construction disputes, policyholder coverage actions and post-M&A claims.

Prior to joining HWF, Ed was an underwriter at Liberty Global Transaction Solutions, underwriting both contingent legal risk and W&I insurance. Drawing on his disputes background, he structured and executed bespoke solutions for discrete, high-severity risks, including live litigation exposures, tax and contingent liabilities, including those arising on M&A transactions.

HWF’s ability to drive the process forward de-risks the M&A processes we are involved with. We count on their reliability and expertise, even where there are complex issues or challenging timetables

James Renahan, Fried Frank

We use HWF wherever the opportunity arises because they advise, structure and execute W&I insurance policies with great efficiency. Our trust in their service and process allows us to focus on our job resulting in positive client outcomes on their M&A deals

Helen Croke, White & Case

I am always happy to recommend HWF on deals; their in-depth experience of both M&A and the insurance market, combined with a pragmatic approach, leads to smoother processes, better coverage positions and ultimately happier clients

Aaron Fairhurst, CMS
