Kai Schmitz

Director, Head of Tax Insurance (Iberia)

Kai is a Director and Head of Tax Insurance for Iberia in the Tax Insurance team at HWF.

He is a Spanish qualified tax lawyer specializing in international tax structuring, tax due diligence and overall tax advisory on M&A transactions/reorganisations. During his career in private practice, Kai worked for the Spanish law firm Garrigues and the international/M&A tax departments of KPMG and PwC in Spain, mostly advising private equity and corporate clients. Prior to joining HWF, Kai spent four years within the transactional risk team of a global insurance broker where he led their Tax Insurance offering for the Iberian and LATAM market.

He holds a law degree and two master degrees (including in Tax Law) from ESADE Law School.

Kai is fluent in Spanish, German and English.
